Black Eyed Peas are back asking the most important question: Where is the Love?

The band formerly known as the Black Eyed Peas once made the whole world ask itself the same question. And now, it seems circumstances have brought us again to a critical point. At this junction, they have returned to ask again that simple but most important of questions. And to make us reflect on the events of this year and what the impact has been for the progress of our civilization.

Most artists have a gift, a kind of sensitivity that allows them to be especially aware of their surroundings. Because of this, we find the diversity of artistic expressions. How some artists are able to focus on the pain, hardships/happiness, and hopefulness of the people around them and relate to it.

Many artists are very outspoken about what they consider injustice around the world. And, they commit to their causes with foundations and organizations actively changing unfair living situations for many people and living beings on the planet. In most cases, an artist is someone with strong convictions and always ready to defend what they consider important. So, when this passion mixes with a just cause, the result can be very beneficial. Both in terms of moving forward creatively and using their influence on the public as a way to educate and stimulate knowledge and thinking in the audience.

Everybody is asking the same question

Will.i.am joins up with his former Black Eyed Peas band mates to bring back the iconic song, compelled by the recent violent events taking place not only in the US but also around the world. The video for the new song features images about the refugee crisis, the Syrian conflict, the shootings of unarmed black men in the US along with protests from the Black Lives Matter movement about police brutality. It also shows the mothers of some of the victims, such as Philando Castile and Alton Sterling.

They’re not back at it alone though. This time, they have brought almost every major celebrity of the moment to input their own influence into what should be the most important question and message. The song, originally released in 2003, this time features in the recording booth the likes of Justin Timbarlake, Diddy, Nicole Scherzinger, Andra Day, DJ Khaled, Usher, Jessie J, Jamie Foxx, Mary J. Blidge, ASAP, Rocky, and more.

Also, we can see they have gathered the help of many other celebrities for the video. This includes legendary producer Quincy Jones, basketball superstar Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kris and Kendall Jenner, and actor Jaden Smith, just to name a few. The reason is not hard to tell. This has certainly been a rough year for society at large, and things are not looking bright. So in a world so divided and steeped in conflict, what else can the natural idealist that is the artist aspire to do?

Hopeful, even in the difficult times

The band remixed the song to reflect the current times and it feels as fresh and new as anything else out there. The artists also added new lyrics to ensure its relevance with the issues at hand, and it is completed by the new video, a direct reminder of everything we’ve been through this past year. Hopefully, this time we can make a difference for the future generations.

In the end, the message is that, we are not alone in our feelings and hopes for change. Actually, the majority of people around the world don’t want to keep engaging in conflict. And now, they are being inspired by the message portrayed in iconic songs like “Where is the love?” which remains as relevant today as it was in 2003.
