The controversial song that faced for the first time the forces of order with the American black population. Fuck Tha Police is what the people of Compton wanted to hear, tired of men in uniform canceling their rights.

Fuck tha police

NWA (Niggaz With Attitude, active between 1986 and 1991) was the band in charge of this epic song. Ice Cube, one of the members of the band remembers that the police of Los Angeles abused of its authority and harassed them, that the childhood in those districts was not easy: crack, gang, Reagan and hip hop. The perfect formula for everything to jump through the air in the form of a song: he says the cops overreacted with the people of the ghetto, because they had the badge and the weapons.

And the music was positioned against the abuses, because it was the musicians who suffered them: Ice Cube also points out that they always gave them an extra twist to harass them, to humiliate them, to despise them, to intimidate them. Some of the NWA members had already been arrested by the police and Compton was a war zone.

Extreme forces

Two years ago, the movie Straight Outta Compton premiered – after 13 years of filming – re-creating the band’s history, the song and what happened every time they played on the stage: hundreds of policemen came on stage to arrest them and they had to run away. Ice Cube recalls that they were tired of external forces trying to dictate who they were and what they could do. His is one of the founder of the first large rap group (along with Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and Mc Ren) as well as Public Enemy.

Gangsta Rap

The gangsta rap is the most explicit and radical version of the genre, the less modest and correct of all of them. Glory to drugs and crime, anger against the police and censorship in the most conventional radios of the country, despite having sold more than 10 million copies in the US alone. The group preferred the label “reality love” to gangsta rap; They did not want anything to sweeten the raw vision of neighborhood youth.

Straight Outta Compton was the group’s first album, which included the song Fuck Tha Police, which rebelled against police brutality and police discrimination. The song was published in 1988, and almost three decades after the fight is still in progress.

Black bodies

The journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates, published Between the World and Me, where also he tries to answer the question how to live free in a black body in the USA. However, he concludes that in North America dreams and liberties are guaranteed “if you think you are white.”

The dream of those who think themselves white, Coates explains, smells like BBQ on Memorial Day, finally has perfect gardens and there are houses with Boy Scouts trees.
