Beginnings and influences

Before gaining popularity in the mainstream, Fabolous released a single titled “If They Want It” in 1998 under his previous name, Fabolous Sport. The track was released by Def Jam Recordings on the DJ Clue album, The Professional. In 2000, Fabolous recorded a second single under Elektra Records called “Gotta Be a Thug” under his current name. This song can be found in the album DJ Clue Presents Backstage Mixtape (Soundtrack).

From African American and Dominican origins, Fabolous has appeared on many songs with different artists such as Tamia, Usher, Jennifer Lopez, Don Omar, Christina Milian, Cassidy, Game, Amerie, Mariah Carey, Bow Wow, Lil ‘Mo, Benzino, B2K, P. Diddy, Young Jeezy, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown.
