Taylor Swift is making her own YouTube!

Taylor Swift became famous mainly because of her album “1989” released in 2014 and thanks to her singles “Shake it off”, “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood”, which sold one million copies in its first week alone in the Unites States.

At the moment, these Taylor Swift songs on YouTube have 1.7 million, 1.8 million and 987,000 views respectively. But it seems to be that lately this beautiful blonde singer is not satisfied. So, she came out with the brightest idea, coming from an artist. Creating her own YouTube! And with her, there are around 160 musicians that will join in protest towards the monopolistic online video browser.

Now for the bad news. She will not create “Taytube” or “Youswift”. Darn it. It’s an association that all these artists will do with the company AT&T. You might have heard of them. AT&T is the telecommunications company that was founded by Alexander Graham Bell. So, we are talking about one of the largest non-oil-companies in the world. And this time, this giant wants to broaden its income by creating an online platform where artists can publish their videos and users will be able to access them through their mobile phones. So, everyone will be happier, the artists and the music fans. Everyone except for YouTube, I guess.

Besides the number of visits, one other reason that made Taylor and other artists boycott YouTube is because of one of the terms that they have against the laws of the cyber Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

It makes the copyright unsafe for the artists. It seems to be that anyone might benefit from the artist’s work without their permission. So, in spite of this copyright law that was created in 1996 by the United States Senate for that purpose, it is already not working for them. So it has been considered obsolete by most famous artists, including Taylor. They have tried to tell this to YouTube, but they have not listened to them.

In response to this, now it’s not only Taylor Swift who wants to “shake off” the online promoter (sorry). But Paul McCartney and hundreds of musicians and musical managers, like Irving Azoff, feel the same, mainly because their profits has been slowed down by the fact that, nowadays, anyone with a smartphone can listen to any type of music for free.

Taylor Swift is shaking up the entertainment industry

This was even announced by the magazine “Rolling Stone” seeing as Irving is the CEO of Azoff MSG Entertainment. It works with the Madison Square Garden Company that represents artists such as Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5, No Doubt, Bon Jovi and many others. So he is considered among the most important and controlling executives in the music industry, and sooner or later it will be a reality that we will need to pay for each piece of music that we would like to listen to. And now you will hear about AT&T quite a lot perhaps more than YouTube someday.

Recently, AT&T announced on its Twitter account “@TaylorSwift13 fans have a new destination for unique and never seen videos, #TaylorSwiftNOW – coming soon, only on AT&T”. This was written there and published along with a Taylor Swift video that shows all her previous and current works.

Is Taylor Swift the guinea pig? Are all artists going to join this campaign? Until now, YouTube has been the most successful online media, not only for promoting music but all types of information, and as a result it has billions of users around the globe. Almost any person on the planet knows this word just by hearing it so, what does this mean? Are we talking about the last days of YouTube?
